Dual Boot W10 and W7 Woes

I've got 2 SSD and 1 HDD. I have Win10 on one SSD and Win7 on the other. I can access both OS, but not without issue...

  • I can't seem to set a boot order. No matter what I set in BIOS, Win10 will boot (I need to boot override in BIOS to access Win7)
  • Every time I boot to a different OS, Windows wants to run CHDISK and then changes the file permissions for everything on the HDD.

I want to choose which OS to load without a BIOS override, because the chances are I'll use that OS for the next several boots.

I want to share the HDD between the OS's without running CHDISK and having to redo permissions all the time.

Help! :(

I had this, I think because I updated to win10 then having found it wouldn't run my favorite game I reinstalled win7 to a separate drive, apparently win7 needs to be installed before win10. I got round it by using a windows 7 repair disk to sort the boot problems. I got to a stage when nothing would boot. After the repair I could set the boot order in win7 the usual way (I think with config.sys).

I managed to get the dual boot thing going, but now I can't load Win10. I think it's a permission issue because I can't access that drive from Win7.

Try turning off fast boot on w10. I used to have the same problem with w8 and w7 dual booting. It can cause irrecoverable corruption.
