I currently run W7 32bit and I want to be able to install 64bit to boot into occasionally for video editing work, what's the easiest way to go about this?
Long term .... format and install Win7 64bit, you can install and run 32bit programs without too much hassle (most cases no hassle at all). I run Windiws7 64bit and run all my games, steam without problems.
If you need to dual boot (which really with Win7 makes no sense), most searches on google are saying you'd need to install Windows7 64bit before you could install 32bit to dual boot it :/
I really don't want the hassle of having to backup and format my computer as I'd only occasionally use the 64bit for adobe premier. Does anyone know of a way or am I stuffed?
Why don't you want the benefits of 64-bit normally for the added memory space?
You can probably make another partition and install it on there but it is completely bazaar way of doing it, especially given everything seems to work on 64-bit.
Can't you use the windows equivalent of time machine, format and bring it back with 64-bit to just how it was?
Also, you need two licenses for 32/64-bit, which seems a waste of money? (Assuming you pay for the licenses that is - MSDN etc)
The license key works for both 32-bit and 64-bit, so all he needs is a 64-bit ISO.
I have to agree though, backing up and formatting the entire thing, then installing 64-bit will benefit you in the long term.
If you really want to dual boot, make a new partition on your drive (about ~30gb or so) and then boot from optical/usb with the Windows installer. Then pick the new partition you made and it will install it on there. Once you've done this, you can pick between the two OSes with boot manager.
Best to back up anyway, in case you accidently pick the wrong partition with the 32-bit install...
