Ok, i really like the look of some of the DX10 stuff thats floating around and am thinking now may possibly be a good time to upgrade to vista, currently using my nice stable xp pro that i would like to keep as a backup (i still dont really trust vista)

I currently have a 200gb HDD with XP/games etc on and a 400gb HDD for my music/movies/drivers etc (for when i need to format C: )

I am wondering if i can install vista on the 400gb HDD without formatting and keep all the data i currently have on there,

Thanks in advance

You could do, but it might be messy. I'd suggest you split the 400gb drive into 2 partitions, one for Vista and one for data. It means your data will continue to remain seperate from a Windows install.

Thanks for your reply, I didnt think of that :) In that case is it possible to partition the 400gb drive keeping all the old files on 1 partition? or am i totally going nowhere with this?

Of course you can. Just use something like Partition Magic. It can create new partitions, and resize existing partitions, without losing your data. I'd still advise you backup first though :p

Ok, i have just got all my partitions sorted out and am now using vista :)

i gotta say im impressed, the last time i used it was at RC1 and it was horrible, actually starting to look nearly finished now :p

it does seem to be running a lot smoother than xp too
