There is nothing particularly special about the RAM in dual or triple channel kit. A triple channel kit is just a kit with three sticks of RAM of the exact same type- so they will work fine in a triple channel motherboard without any compatability issues (which can arise when mixing RAM of different manufacturers, speeds etc.). You could go out and buy three individual "single channel" channel sticks of the same type - and they should work in triple channel mode just fine. Its just that buying from a kit guarantees they will work together.
The triple or dual channel function is all done by the motherboard (or more accurately the memory controller on the CPU). You don't need any special type of RAM to allow dual or triple channel mode -just so long as its specifications are supported by the motherboard/CPU.
thats what i thought, so if i say, had a triple channel kit, but only wanted to use 2 sticks from it, it would be the same as buying a dual channel kit?
