Hey guys,

i was hopeing that some of you may be able to shed some light on dual channel memor for me. i have a asrock sataII dual mobo and im thinking about getting new ram ( i red the FAQ's) but im not sure what impact dual channel stuff should have on my choice

thanx for any help guys

Dual channel is where data is transmtted on the rise and fall of each clock cycle i think

Needs two matched sticks to work, but skt754 doesnt have it for some unknown reason

No, thats DDR.

Dual channel is like RAID 0 basically, where the memory controller can read and write to both sticks at the same time, which in theory doubles bandwidth, but I think its about 80-90%.

yea not double though as it should.

and its only in bandwidth, which the athlon 64's arent exactly crying out for anyway.

That why skt 754 didnt have it?

Also, without dual channel could you get lower latencies to get a bigger boost

It will run it automatically, just buy a set of memory and it will work, its pretty much standard for ram now

No as you're accessing seperate sticks it has nothing to do with latencies, it just means more bandwidth.

S754 doesn't have dual channel because the A64 memory controller is on the CPU and the S754 range only had single channel memory controllers (it was early days for the A64 design back then).

I have two 512 sticks in my rig 1 in slot 1 & the second in slot 3.

I have 2 yellow slots and 2 more slots that are a different colour. I was told to put 1 in ech colour to active it but it is not doing so????????

What mobo is it, a DFI?

You need to put the two modules in slots the same colour:
