dual channel memory on I7

hi guys,

I know that this might sound like a silly question and i'm guessing that i already know the answer but do i neccessarily have to use tripple channel memory with the core I7 processors?

I'm asking because i already have dual channel DDR3 crucial memory and wondered if i could get away with using this memory for a while without having to upgrade to tripple channel kits immediately.

According to some internet sites it is possible with little performance loss but i was hoping that some one on here had personal experience in this?

thanks,

Sure - dual channel mode works. However, i7 can only handle 1.65V max for the RAM - so you should check whether your current memory will run at this low voltage (will likely require loosening of timings/underclocking).

yes it'll just run not quite as fast as it might.

you also want to check out the voltage your ram needs, if its older DDR3 it might need 1.8/1.95 etc to run but i7 really doesn't like (to the point of potential damage I understand) anything much over 1.6 which is why new sets of DDR3 became available shortly after launch.
