hey guys, i bought a 2Gb stick of DDR3 1066 ram when building my current computer and i've just snapped up two 1Gb sticks of the same ram on that auction site thing.

my motherboard supports dual channel memory but i'm wondering if the 2Gb stick and the two 1Gb sticks will actually work in dual channel when i plug them in, i dont think i'll be too bothered if they dont but it'd be nice to know what kind of performance increases dual channel might bring over single

mobo is GA-EG41MFT-us2h
ram is kingston aka elpida PC1066 DDR3 240 pin non ECC

ok edit
might have found something about it, is dual channel where 1066 runs at 1333? or higher, or am i as lost as i feel lol

from what i remember 3 sticks in 3 slots won't pick up dual channel, but tbh i wouldnt worry about it, i'd go for 4gb over dual channel.

cool, and yeah been wanting more for a while, my geforce 9800GT with 1Gb likes leaching 800Mb+ of my onboard ram for some reason and it gets tetchy sometimes lol

yeah thats not a problem, but i was under the impression that 32Bit would pick up and use upto 4Gb, my motherboard bios limits at 4Gb but GA have just released new bios to max the ram out at 8Gb, i'm not gonna mess about with that for now, 4Gb should be enough for what i do :D

32 bit OS is limited to 4GB yes, but graphics cards eat into that hence you don't see full 4GB.

slightly off topic, is there any way of shutting it off, i noticed it done it with my first gfx card ( sapphire HD2600Xt 256Mb ) but thought by upgrading it wouldnt be leaching so much, even now on pretty much idle windows reports my gfx card is sitting at 1798Mb ram, i play games but at most it's borderlands and need for speed world on medium settings for both, am pretty sure the system could use the ram more then my 9800GT

sorry for the DP :O
it would seem that 2x1Gb sticks and 1x2Gb stick will work in dual channel interleaved, not exactly sure what that means, maybe we can haz experts come and enlighten :p lol
