Dual channel memory?

Hi,

I wanted to upgrade my Asus F5R laptop from 1GB of memory to 2GB of memory, so I bought a Crucial 2x1GB set and installed it today (removing the 1GB of ram already in the system as there are only 2 slots). However when checking CPU-Z it says the memory is still running in single channel?

I couldn't see any option in the bios to change this, am I actually able to get the memory to run in dual channel or do you think its not supported? (I thought all new computers supported it?)

Its a Core Duo T2130 now with 2x1GB of DDR II 667MHz.

Cheers for any help.

are the sticks in the correct slots? they should be colour coded. stick them in the respective slots. if that doesn't work, you may need a bios upgrade.

There are only two slots on my laptop. Hum I will have a look on Asus website for bios upgrade, before I do has any one else got any thoughts?

i have an option in my bios called 'flexibility option' this allows for greater compatibility with different brands of memory sticks but the cost is it turns off dual channel.

have a look , maybe this is 'on' in your bios, if you do indeed have this option.

have you checked the bios to see if that states single channel too?

Thanks for the replies. I have double checked the bios and looked at all options but none related to the memory. The memory which came with the laptop was 667MHz though so I am uncertain that the memory speed has anything to do with it. I have however sent Asus a support ticket to see what they say - they have been helpful in the past hehe.

Thanks again for your comments and any more are welcome.
