Dual channel slots won't work, Beep code!

I'm having trouble trying to get dual channel working with my mobo, it's a gigabyte 890gpa-ud3h. If I put the ram in the dual channel slots it gives me 3 long beeps and 1 short beep. But if I put the ram in the white and blue slots (single) it boots my computer up fine. What could be the problem?

Try running one stick in one slot and moving it across the four.

It could be possible that you have a faulty board.

As long as the motherboard can support the memory type (DDR/DDR2/DDR3) it will be able to run it.

There is no point looking on the support list, as manufacturers will never test every single make and model of RAM.

And besides, if the memory was not compatible, it would not run it full stop.

Not entirely true, some motherboards can't supply the voltage for certain memory...

It sounds like you have a dodgy memory controller, as it wont run in dual channel or that one or more of your DIMM's are faulty.
Also check to make sure the BIOS is supplying the correct voltage for your RAM.

Put both memory modules in the white slots?. i have noticed there are different revisions and layout for this motherboard. What revision is your motherboard?

Identifying Your Motherboard Revision
The revision number on your motherboard looks like this: "REV: X.X." For example, "REV: 1.0" means the revision of the motherboard is 1.0. Check your motherboard revision before updating motherboard BIOS, drivers, or when looking for technical information.

it's a gigabyte 890gpa-ud3h.

GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 1.0)

GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 2.0)

GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.0)

GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

is it anyone of these?

Here is a revision 1.0 review of the GA-890GPA-UD3H, they had dual channel in the white slots.

Computer POST and beep codes

I don't know if you misunderstand, I put the ram in both the blue slots for dual channel. and it gives me 3 long beeps and 1 short. same when I put them both in the white slots. But when I put one stick in blue and one in white it boots up.

Ok I tested 1 ram stick in all the slots. If I put the stick in the 2 which is closest to the cpu I get the beep codes. But the other 2 slots work fine, so 2 slots arent working nearest to the cpu. Faulty mobo?

It's REV 2.1
Ok i downloaded and looked at the manual and it says for Dual Channel operation.... it is recommended that memory of the same capacity, brand, speed, and chips be used and installed in the same colored DDR3 sockets for optimum performance.

For Dual Channel Operation with two modules (ram sticks)

DDR3_1 and DDR3_3 the two blue slots (which you have done)

Dual Channel Operation with four modules you fill all four channels, so four sticks of memory.

Is the ram/ memory set to DRAM auto in the bios?

I said i've tested ONE STICK of ram in every slot. It doesn't work in the 2nd and 3rd slots. It gives me beep codes. But works in the 3rd and 4th ram slot. I changed the ram settings to manual so its not on auto. I know that you put the ram in the same colored slots for dual channel, 1st slot is white, 2nd is blue, 3rd is white, 4th is blue. You see why i cannot dual channel now?

At the moment I have 2 ram sticks in 1st and 2nd slot so it will be single channel not dual channel.

Edit: I've just checked the manual and it shows the ram installation,

Channel 0: DDR3_1, DDR3_2
Channel 1: DDR3_3, DDR3_4

My ram atm is in the 3rd and 4th slot.

Something wrong here i think because the two slots nearest the cpu is not dual channel operation, but, this depends what revision your motherboard is and the different revisions show different memory channel layout.

You said previously the revision is 2.1 but the 2.1 has a blue and white channel nearest the cpu, you want the memory in the same cloured channels for dual channel operation, or all four channels for dual channel.

If you’ve tried a known good stick of memory in all four slots and it only works in two of them then a motherboard fault is the most likely cause.

The gain from dual channel operation isn’t that massive so you could just decide to live with it.

I’ve just realised that it’s a AMD board. Try reseating the processor, and check the pins and the socket for any sign of damage at the same time.

Ok what sort of thing should I be looking for? Other than bent pins, also it's not so much just the dual channel but what If I want to upgrade my ram in the future to 8gb? =\
