I have read the sticky at the top of this forum but still a little confused.

At the moment i have some Geil value ram 2x512 dual channel kit in my motherboard (Asus P4C800e Deluxe) running in dual channel.

If i was to add another dual channel kit 2x512 of another brand would it still run in dual channel or would i have to go with the same type of memory i already have?

I did it on an Abit IS7 board with no problems ... my first gig were 2 x 512 value ram and the 2nd were 2 x 512 Crucial.

Full dual mode working fine :)

Guess i will just have to try it and hope that my mobo and memory will run in dual channel.

It will run in dual-channel, but it's generally advised against to use 4 modules, causes a lot of problems, even with the best modules. 2 x 1Gb and you'll never go back.

Have you got any links to where i can do some further reading on this?

Dont have the money right now to get 2x1GB sticks but need more ram to run Vista which work is getting for me sometime next week.

I ran 4 x 512MB OCZ PC3200 Platinum rev2 on an Asus P4C800 mobo without any problems, if you get a 2nd dual channel kit (paired dimms) of the same speed, and run it with your Geil value, all 4 sticks will run in dual channel.

It does put a bit more strain on the memory controller, than using 2 x 1GB sticks, but if you are not o/cing it really won't matter at all.

If you were using an AMD mobo/cpu, then it would make more of a difference, it would run at 2T I believe, and a lower FSB (I believe).

I would just get another (paired) 2 x 512MB sticks and use them with the 2 you already have. :)

Thanks for the heads up.
