I don't think this is anything to do with ATi: the OEMs can do what they want with the chips if they have the resources, just as Gainward lumped the 7900GT onto an AGP bus, some other company lumped two of the blighters onto one card and yet another company has wedged two 1950Pro chips onto a single board, too.

The fun thing about the R300 architecture, IIRC, was that it could be stuck together with other R300s in parallel... but nobody ever did (other than that one company who built it for a private consumer).
