I am using a 3700+ @ the moe and have been waiting for some dual 939 proc's
to come back on sale but what is my best option a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ (Socket 939) - OEM just over the 140 squid mark or a AMD Opteron 165 Socket 939 1.8GHz Dual Core 2x1MB @ 100 or should I wait for FX-60 to come into stock. I have about 150 to spend and it will be the last component I will buy for some time.
My system board is capable of any of the above proc's, I am thinking the 4600+ dual is the one to get but with the overclocking options on my MB is it just as well to get the AMD Opteron 165 Socket 939 1.8GHz Dual Core 2x1MB and save 40 squid, please help me make my mind up coz I can decide.
I do use my PC for mostly games and DTP but the games come first.
with 2 OCUK 7900gs running SLI mode, so it will be the finishing step for a 12 month.

Thanks much
D

Wouldnt bother with a 4600, 165 and FX62 have double the cache, opterons overclock pretty nice depending what motherboard and ram you got aswell. DFI board are monsters for overclocking AMD's, just sad that the new intel board isnt really hitting the "Enthusiaist" market :(.

"If" the FX60 eventually shows up in the uk for around the £200 mark then I would consider it a good option.

Out of the 4600 or the Opteron 165, I would go for the Opteron every day.
You are guaranteed to hit FX60 and most likely FX62 speeds with them.

I am using DFI Lanparty ultra D with the SLI bridge connected on the chipset,
a 3700+ and 512 * 2 PC3200 1gig DDR400.
OCUK7900gs times 2 SLI
3Dmark 03 27,000 @ stock.
All from OCUK "thanks for the £65 MB" as I see it has gone up in price, even so still worth every penny.
But I do want to change proc as it will complete my system and I dont have to worry about any more upgrade's for a 12 month or more and I can then consentrate on saving up for DX10 graphic's cards.

Cheers
D
PS so the AMD Opteron 165 Socket 939 1.8GHz Dual Core 2x1MB is the best one even
@ 1.8GHz

At stock (1.8) the opty will be a tad slower than the X2 4600.
But the whole purpose of buying the 165 is to use its potential.

In other words; running the 165 at stock speeds is like driving a Koenigsegg at 30mph ;)

And you happen to have a DFI sli, which pretty much equals to running the Koenigsegg with Rocket Fuel :D

My friend is looking for dualcore 939 cpu, are the opteron 165 coming back in stock in ocuk :) or "elsewhere :( " and when???

They are available elsewhere in the UK for just over £100. Do a search :)

Im sure OCUK would not mind getting hold of a few hundred of them as they would sell them in an instant.

you have a DFi board, youl want an opteron. just got myself a brand new opteron 170 for £109.88 :D although that was posted from the USA. Hopefully should get a tenner for the cooler that came with it as its a fantastic cooler, 99.88p for an opty 170 = good value for money for me.

there about @ £100 so thats the one to get then.
Just one otherthing how about a AMD Opteron 148 Socket 939 2.2GHz 1MB
75 squid anygood

thanks guys

awsome

Right I'm going for the AMD Opteron 165 Socket 939 1.8GHz Dual Core 2x1MB,
thats if I can find then back in stock. I was a bit slow on the uptake of the offer
there's none left in stock so I will go on the hunt for a AMD Opteron 165 1.8GHz Dual Core. If I have no luck finding one then it will have to be the dual 4600+.

yer fantastic value for £100 at most places atm.

Don't look at an opteron in terms of stock value. They're made to be revved!
