right, i have got a GA-965P-DS3, with a 6400 dual core, a freezer 7 pro, and 2 GB of Corsair DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX, now i have set up my bios as follows, i have turned off the throttle features like CPU Enhanced halt etc, i have set the fan running at full speed all the time, the CPU Host freq, is set to 400 (same speed as ram?) the multiplier to x7 (so CPU core speed is 2800MHz) PCI Express Freq to 100, syster memory multiplier to 2 (so its running at 800?) memory timings to 5,5,5,12, and i have left all voltages to standard, (dont really have enough experience to mess with them,)

i am doing system testing with orthos, and core temp! using small FFTs - to stress CPU, the load temp settles at about 59, to 60 degrees. with the Blend - to stress ram and CPU the load temp tops out at about 56 degrees and the Gromacs core to stress CPU, tops the load temp at about 58 degrees!

now firstly has anyone got any sugestions where i can make some improvments, (obviously i dont want my processor to go over 60 degrees often, so i dont know if i should be upping the cpu speed by mutch???) but as far as memory, FSB, and voltages, i havnt got a clue where to go next...

also, the machine is going to be used mainly for gaming, what sort of stress do modern games put on the CPU, do they stress it as much as say orthos, and does it run at 100% often when running games, what i want to know really is can i bump up my core speed, (to a level where say orthos will take the temps up very high, over 60 degrees) but rarely have the cpu reaching the same temp levels while running games at the same speeds??
as for the gaming side i have got a 7900GTO, and a X-FI extreme music soundcard... and the main games i am playing are things like GTR2, GT Legends, RACE, the wtcc game, Medievil II total war, Half Life 2, Fear, Sturmovik. etc etc.......

cheers

With that setup you should be able to go to 3.2GHz without raising temps over 60 using TAT 100% load. (Download TAT and test it if you havent done so already, it is very accurate for temps and gives you a max load temp)

Did you use AS5 when mounting your AC7? How much paste did you apply?...some people have had problems with the mounting of the AC7 so i would suggest that you remount yours and use only the smallest amount of AS5 when fitting it back on. Once done, download and install TAT and check your temps at idle and full load then post back.

Download TAT from HERE

Really, you don't need the F7Pro on full all the time, for a start it'll sound like a hoover :|

I run the rig in the sig with the F7Pro on PWM Fan control and its solid.

i used the heat paste stuff that came already coated on the freezer 7 pro!
i just ran tat (at 80% after reading a post that stated that tat running at 80% is probably equal to the maximum realworld load you will get from any software running on the system) and max temps got to 56 degrees, so im gona try the multiplier at 8x, if that gets very high temps should i drop the CPU host Freq. to below 400, maybee to 376, to set CPU to 3.00GHz
cheers..
