What's the difference between...

AMD Athlon X2 AM2

AMD Athlon 64 939

Apart from the socket type on the motherboard that fit on

Why is there a difference is price for the same proccesor with a different socket type?

Is one type of socket better than the other?

& with regard to the AMD motheboards for these processors, whats the difference between...

SLiReady
Micro-ATX
Crossfire Ready

One is dual core and one is single core.

There are 4 variants:

AM2 A64 & A64 X2s
S939 A64 & A64 X2s

SLI ready - supports Nvidia SLI graphics - using Nvidia's NF4/5/6 series SLI chipsets.
xfire ready - supports ATI crossfire grapihcs - using ATI's xpress 1600/3200 chipsets.
Mirco ATX - smaller than standard ATX mobo, usually comes with integrated graphics, will fit both ATX and mATX case.

Basically am2 is newer and uses ddr2 memory

939 is a older design and uses ddr memory

you might think am2 would be dearer because it is newer technology but anybody who invests in a new mobo and ddr2 memory would buy intels conroe instead

so basicly amd have reduced am2 prices to undercut intel in a attempt to lure people away from conroe

939 is dearer basically because they are no longer being produced and demand is still high because people want to keep there ddr memory and motherboards

there is virtually no difference performance wise between am2 and 939

Sorry I meant between the dual core ones...

AMD Athlon X2 939
AMD Athlon X2 AM2

For the same processor speed why is one socket type more expensive than the other?
