Hi guys :)

Is there any news of a dual core atom in the works anytime soon?

Looking at getting a (type of calendar you get at xmas) 4211, but will hold out for a dual core atom if theres one soon.

Cheers

Oh I see :)

Any reason you would want a dual-core netbook? I thought the idea with them was just very simple web acess and word processing?

I've been looking into an Asus EEEPC recently, of which the 901 and 1000 models use an Atom, they look very useful as an ultra-portable computing solution, and the mod community is huge, people integrating all sorts of stuff into them.

Now a dual core version would be nothing short of amazing, as far as computing power goes, for something so small.

Hmmm, kinda defeats the whole low powered idea though? I mean I know having dual-core is handy on a normal machine but surely it would just drain extra power without offering that much extra performance?

You'd obviously need to improve the battery, which there is obvious scope for improvement on (currently around 480mah iirc).

Found this in the news section of a well known PC magazine. Can't link to it there are ads on the page.

Shen announced earlier this month that yet more new Eee PCs will be released in September, with SSD drives up to 120GB in capacity and with dual-core Atom processors.

Shen is President a ASUS, so to answer your question: about a month +plus a few more to reach these shores.

Hyper-Threading makes sense and I'm glad they enabled it... gives a lot more performance potential without a huge extra power draw.

Looks very good to me!

Just wish they'd arrived sooner as i've only recently built a hoojum cubit 3 system consisting of an e7200, 4gb of DDR2, dvdrw and 250gb 7200rpm HDD.
