I want to clock my old mans Dual-Core E5200.
I've clock before, but was ages ago now.
Has anyone clock one of these before? got any info on best settings please ?
And what could i get out of it.:D
For his gaming machine.
P.s would this run a lot better on vista64bit then windows xp 32bit ?

That was also with an Abit IP-35 Pro XE. Completely mental to have a cheap chip that does 4GHz for 8 hours on Prime.

If you're prepared to believe CoreTemp then the low VID of 1.05 volts probably has something to do with it.
 
So is that all you've change was the bus speed to 320, on a 12.5 devider ?
Anything else, ram, volts etc ? what ram you using ? can you show me you ram on that cpu-z please mate :)

If i could get that to 4GHz, he be well happy.
What would you think that spec will be like in games.
My dads a bigger kid then me. i kick his a** at tigerwoods 08 and fifa09 lol sad i know lol

It's not going to make a massive difference in games; that's primarily down to the graphics card. Unless of course the CPU clock speed was a bottle neck to the GPU.

Still an impressive overclock though :)

but surley a clock speed of 4ghz running with a 8800GTS would run a lot better, then say a clock speed of 2.5ghz ?
All this bottleneck lark, can u explain that in laymans term please buddie ;)
If i have a cpu running at say 2.8, and a card was 8800gts 512. what kind of cpu would u need to make them run better together.. need to undersatnd this bottleneck thing more :)

P4radox is a jammy git. He has a fantastic chip and an extremely low vid. Mine maxes out at 3.6Ghz while other's have been stuck at 3.2Ghz. Don't expect to get near 4Ghz as you will most likely end up dissapointed. Aim for 3.4-3.6Ghz and then anything extra will be a bonus.

Agreed. I've been extremely lucky with this chip, most struggle at 3.6GHz.

up2nogooduk - I boosted my Vcore to (I think) 1.35V in BIOS. The RAM was on a divider although I've forgotten which one. I basically made sure it stayed below its rated speed of 800MHz and set all the timings manually to the SPD values.
 
Can someone else give me a known ram devider to use please :)

It depends on your FSB. If your divider is 1:1 then your RAM bus is exactly the same as your CPU bus. This is all fine until you reach the rated speed of your ram. So as you raise the FSB, you need to progressively change the divider to make sure you're within spec.

The IP35 Pro XE's BIOS is very helpful, it tells you what your RAM's speed will be based on the FSB and divider you choose, you don't even need to do any sums. It's easy these days...;)
 
ive just tryed mine at 250 fsb and 275, seems ok on both but i dont really know what im doing as this is my first build and ive never o/c'ed before!

I am wondering if I could be confident I could stick an E5200 at default volts to 266FSB for 3333mhz or E5300 at 3466mhz - I may well want/need to BSEL mod it to make the mobo think thats its default speeds so it also has to be at default volts (dont want to do the BSEL equivalent hardwire of CPU volts)

Whats the likelihood of that being achievable?

Read the sticky before you screw something up and start worrying needlessly (or with due cause... depends on what you do. ;).

I though earlier that keeping the divider at 1.1 was easier if CPU freq and Ram freq was equal, IE an E5200 with DDR2 at 800Mhz, or E7400 with DDR2 at 1066Mhz or an E8400 with DDR3 at 1333Mhz, just found out I am completely wrong :confused:
 
I've never even head of BSEL before, so I've no idea:p

It's a mod that you use to "trick" the cpu/mobo into thinking it's a faster cpu than it actually is. You use a conductive pen or similar to join up two of the contact points on the underside of the cpu. There was one for a E4300 not long after they came out. It was handy for people who had the poor clocking Asrock boards.

Yes I read it does work on e5000 series but I thought i read it didn't really do much other than start you with a higher fsb at boot, 266?
 
Coming back ON TOPIC or at least back to my question, what sorta overclocks are people getting at default volts and default multipliers on their E5200s?

Let me worry about what a BSEL mod is... (one useful thing it does is make the mobo think the CPU is a real 266FSB chip which can alter FST Straps and the like and often overcome FSB walls that overclocking can come across).

AFAIK Bsel mods are possible on almost all chips, just not so necessary on some of them. I BSEL modded an E2180 to default to 2.66ghz cos my Shuttle had zero overclocking options.
