Hi guys,

Arriving this week will be a HTPC case, to run the micro-atx board and Intel dual core e5400 cpu.

Ive had the board on my desk, with a small 80mm fan, low cfm and it still seems very cool to touch.

what do you think about running this with no fan?

The case will include a single 120mm low cfm fan (15db approx), u think this will be enough? Anyone got experience with this?

Cheers.

Try it and monitor temps, I did similar to my HTPC build a while ago, used on the exhaust ports.

See if you can set a alarm for high temp at 70c to give you some safe guard.

Thats a good idea.

The board is currently sitting on a desk downstairs, waiting for the arrival of my case. I'll test it when it arrives.

Cheers for the advice.

You can run pretty much anything without a CPU fan if you've got good enough case airflow and a big enough heatsink. For example my 2500K with a de-fanned (is that a word? lol) Corsair A70 never goes above 65c. Just run some benchmarks and monitor the temps for a bit, if it doesn't overheat then it should never overheat (in theory anyways :p).

i have done my mums pc with a E5400 with the stock cooler, but i have disconnected the fan, it was way too loud.
i have never seen it above 50.C
