Dual Core gaming issues?

Hi Guys,

Just about to upgrade my p4 2.4c and 9800pro to something with a bit more power. I'm thinking of getting a 165 Opty but are there any dual core issues I should be aware of?

It's going to be used for playing CS:S, DOD:S, Red Orchestra Ostfront and Insurgency. I've read about some stuttering issues and to fix you have to get the multi cpu patch or set affinity etc. Are there any others I should be aware of?

My other CPU choice is a 3700 SD, which'll save me 90 odd quid, but I can't help feeling the DC are a better buy, just on performance and future proofing factors.

Not had any problems with dual core. Played HL2, EQ2, WoW, FarCry, IL2 etc.

Thanks BigDom. I see you have an 1800xt. Do you have any framerate/crash issues in CS:S at all? I have major problems every time I alt tab out of CS and back. Crashes every time. I have latest drivers etc too. Thanks.

Have you un-installed and then re-installed the games (big hassle I know) but its worth a shot.

I've never had a problem with any games,except NFSU2, but I've just re-installed so i'll let you know if that has a difference?

Hey, Agent WD40 I havn't bothered uninstalling, reinstalling as I rarely have to alt tab out when playing. Just wondered if it's ok on the newer video cards.

Well I recently went DC and let windows detect it itself, I never applied the patches etc and haven't had an issue yet, thats with COD2 demo, FEAR, HL2, IL2/FB/PF and GTL.

Only one thing i've noticed.....HL2 Lost coast demo.....When running the in built FPS test........if you alt-tab out and then back in and run the test, it is approx. 20fps faster than a straight run!!
Very odd......i spent ages trying to figure this one out, but it was repeatable every time.
Can someone try with a single core ???

Same vid card and 6.2 drivers here.

a few games u have to manualy set it to run on one core liike GTA:SA and Pyhconoughts other the games will go into a turbo mode and things like cutseens withh look liek there running meny times there normal speed but yet dialog is at normal , GTA on the other hand is looks like its runs 10x times than normal

Not sure if it is dual core related but since I upgraded to dual core I can't play DoD:S with HDR on without it freezing.
