Having recently upgraded to a x2-3800, I'm finding that my extra core is having adverse effects on some games. I've noticed other threads where people are having issues which maybe related to this. If you use dual core please could you post which cpu, what games you play and which ones have had problems which have ben resolved by only running on a single core. This would allow people to discount dual core issues on certain games.

x2-3800 @ Stock
BF2 - Have to run single core (game keeps disconnecting)
TOCA RD3 - Have to run single core (Animations/typing run at hyperspeed)
Oblivion - No problems

Thanks,
Cheesy.

To the OP. Have you tried the following:

1). install the latest AMD CPU drivers

2). Install the MS hotfix (if your XP SP2) as per technet article: http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=896256 remembering to do the registry tweaks outlined in the article.

3). Check your boot.ini has the /usepmtimer at the end of the [operating system] line that boots your system

The reason I ask is that I have an X2 4400 and initially had problems with a few games such as EQ2, Rfactor, GTR plus a few others, since I did all three things above I have had much better luck with running games without having to run em of 1 core including BF2 and TRD3.

I've installed the latest cpu driver, but wimped out on step 2 as I've only just got my pc running and didn't want to go messing with the registry yet
Spending 90% of my time in Oblivion atm which runs fine, will try the patch when I get back into bf2. Cheers.

1. Installed

2. I have installed the hotfix (I used the one found Here). Is this the same as the one linked here ? http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=896256
It didn't fix my problem so I check the boot.ini and it did not have the /usepmtimer setting, bit wary of changing this though. Am I using the right hotfix? Was to lazy to phone up MS and request it...

edit: OK I'm must have just been a complete numpty. Have installed both patches again and I now have the /usepmtimer in my boot.ini. Am gonna try it on bf2 now...
