I think intel are trying to use the i3/i5/i7 monikers as an indication of the level of smugness their customers should have after buying one of their products, instead of a hard-and-fast naming convention.
Absolutely agree on the smugness.
Its absolutely why I went for my i7 ( HP DV6 )
I suppose I am greatful that it is a full 4+HT so I get to see 8 cores chugging along, but its a pathetic 1.6Ghz
Thankfully, its fast enough for my needs, I only use it to go to costa and site down and play Dawn of War or Pool Nation not really HEAVY gaming, and do some homework, but I tell you... Its on the border, while I have another Laptop, thats a dual core 2.53Ghz ( HP 6730B ), thats infinitely more responsive and far superior, but the only difference is that its got Intel graphics and is NOT capable of gaming, although it is capable of 1680x1050 rez so a brilliant display )
I have also just got rid of one Latop, an AMD APU job. ( Samsung RV ) That too was only 1.6, disgustingly slow and yet even better at gaming than the I7 was purely on the fact that its graphics were that much quicker.
Its clear to me, that whether its I3/5 or 7 means nothing.
Its also clear that the speed of said CPUs means little too.
Its no different to an old Samsung I have ( R60 ) - ( yeah, I have loads of PCs and Laptops BTW ) I bought that as a Core2Duo, but its a Pentium core... Very naughty.
I think given my failures in chosing the right laptop thus far, I am simply going to have to hold back and spend a stupid amount on a top end Dell or MSI instead of hoping that this or that does the job.
But then again, I am also hoping that I will be recovered enough that I wont need a laptop to go to costas either
( I lead a sad life if I have bought an i7 laptop just to go to costas to play dawn or war )
