Dual core

Not clued up on this tech,is the split 2 atx 4 pin connectors on a hiper type r 580 the required 8 pin connector for dual core if you join them to make an 8 pin,or do i need a new psu..

Dual core doesn't require a special PSU. You just slap the CPU in a normal motherboard and away you go.

The 8 pin connector is for DUAL CPU boards, ie servers with two physical CPUs and Heatsink/fans. Dual Core CPU use the 4 pin connector.

Some boards (especially some LGA775 Core 2 Duo ones) use the 8pin but many of them don't actually require it to be plugged in and say as much in the manual.

Afaik it is just two combined so if you have that it should work.

I have both 4 pin CPU1 and CPU2 power connectors plugged into the 8pin power slot on my core 2 duo rig - according to the manual its advised but not essential...
