I'm upgading in the near future and thinking about a new graphics card.

I want to simultaneously display to a 1080p TV (1920X1080 dvi to hdmi) and to my 24" monitor (1920X1200) via dvi. Am i right in thinking that any dual dvi card will allow me to do this?

I assume ATi's can, but NV's definitely can.
They also have a function called "video mirror", where if you play a video on your desktop, even in a window, it will run full screen on the TV. Very nice, and I assume it's exactly what you'd like it to do.
Stretching a single display accross both is also possible, but the varying resolutions can cause issues.

Thanks.
Anyone any idea whether this will be possible with ATI dual dvi cards and whether they have a 'video mirror' similar to the nvidia cards?

Why not grab one of the 9600GT cards with a HDMI out, I've just got one (around £100) and it will easily do what you want.

It also has no issues so far running games at 1920 x 1080 which was a nice suprise :) I don't own Crysis mind you!

if i remembercorrectly nvdrivers dont allow you to set 2 different resolutions so thiswouldnt work

i tried this in the past
when i was using a 22inchand 28inch tv

the 22inch 1650x1050 and 28inchwas 1204x768 atthe time, the28inch would sctoll across oin desktop.

i havent tried it sinve vista though (40inch new 28inch runs on same res :D )

They must have removed the feature from the drivers, I used to run monitor at 1280x1024 and tv at 1024x768.

Possibly you cannot have differnt aspects on each head?

But 1280x1024 and 1024x768 are different aspect ratios, 1024x768 and 1280x960 are 4:3, 1280x1024 is 5:4. I know I could do dual monitor out on my old X1650 Pro, but I never tried any 'mirror' features (they were running at 1024x768 and 1280x960).

my shuttle with a ATi 3850 can out put to my 2407 (via DVI) and my dads 1080p TV (via VGA) fine.

if i had brought the HDMI / DVI converter dongle thingy back with me i'd have tried it then but i'd imagine its fine.

Of course NV drivers can output 2 different res's. Just select "run independantly from each other" or something like in the options in NVCP. I have my 8800 running 1680x1050 on my monitor and 1360x768 on my Sony HDLCDTV over a dvi-hdmi convertor. Works a treat! There's other options such as clone desktop, extend desktop etc. so however u want it it can be setup that way.
