Hi all

I'm going to make a complete noob fool of myself here for asking this, but here goes anyway...

I'm about to purchase a crossfire system (two X1900s) and a dell 2405 (resolution 1920x1200). I've heard that in order to use the DVI input on an LCD at resolutions over approx 1680 you need dual DVI outputs from your graphics card, but my understanding is that one of the DVI connectors is taken up by that crossfire dongle (And what's that all about? Reminds me of my old Voodoo cards  )

Does this mean I wont be able to use the 2405s native resolution with Crossfire? I'm pretty sure I've completely misunderstood this, and there's probably a thru connector on the dongle, as what would be the point of having a crossfire solution and not being able to play at super resolutions?

But, stranger things have happened so before I plonk down serious cash, would someone clarify this for me?

In my defense I'd just like to say I've been living under a rock since LCDs came out and DVI was invented. Well, under a very old Hewlett Packard at any rate :o

EDIT: I forgot to ask... Is there any point pairing up an X1900XTX with an X1900 mastercard, other than for future resale value?

Thanks :)

I think it might be a Dual-Link DVI graphics card output port that's required rather than two seperate connections. This being the same as a regular DVI port, but with more data being pumped down it. I assume all decent graphics cards support dual link on either DVI port. :)

Dual link DVI outputs are required for resolutions above 1920x1200 so even if your card had a standard single link DVI port it would work :)

The X1800 and X1900 cards have dual link DVI anyway

With crossfire, each card can run at independent clockspeeds. I initially thought that the slave card would slow down to the same speed as the master card, negating the point of getting an XTX. I've been corrected though - a crossfire solution with an X1900XTX will be a little faster than a crossfire solution with an X1900XT
