Not sure if this is the right place or not but it seems it!
Some one i know has offered me a mac for what seems a good price, but im not 100% sure as i don't know a lot about macs but i was hoping to start using one as my current pc just annoys me!
I was going to get a mac next year in January or February, an intel C2D one so i could dual boot with windows aswell, as 1 piece of software i use is windows only.
But before i go out and spend a good few hundred on a mac i was thinking would it be better for me to buy a semi-decent one, see what i think of it and if it benefits me, then sell it on when i want an Intel based one.
So i was offered:
PowerMac G4
Dual 1.25 ghz
1.25GB RAM
Cd combo drive
80Gig HD (I have a lot of SATA I/II drives, will they work in a G4?)
OSX 10.4
Mouse & Keyboard

For £300.

To me that seems a decent price but are there certain things i should be on the lookout for. One of my housemates bought a G5 a few weeks ago for £350 with a lesser spec than this, so this being cheaper i thought it may possibly be better.
But is there a lot of performance difference between the G4 and G5s and is it worth me buying this to try out a mac for 1-2months as i've seen a lot of macs go on auction sites with similar spec for more, so i would be able to get money back :)

Thanks for any help!

I'd say that's a very competitive price. I see them on an auction site for much more. It should be a nice desktop machine. I have a dual 1.0 GHz G4 with 1 GiB RAM at work and it's a good machine. It runs photoshop like a dream. :)

The hard drives will be IDE. I don't think the mobo has an SATA controller so in order to use your SATA drives you'd have to get an add-in controller card. The graphics card will be AGP.

For that price then i think i might aswell get it to test out if i prefer mac over windows.
Is there anyway of networking my drives in the windows pc so that the G4 can see them ? As they are SATA NTFS not FAT32.

Thanks :)
