Dual GPU - stable enough?

Well it would seem the 4870x2 would be the obvious choice at the high end come August. It really does look hard to beat

But I feel there are serious questions around dual gpu solutions that still need answers. I'm really interested in one of these, but I'd nearly rather a fast single gpu if a dual will be loads of hassle.

Are the xfire drivers ok?

Whats the deal with micro stuttering? Is it sorted or not?

Triple buffering and vsyc - is that a no-no with dual gpus?

Are power and heat a real issue?

btw, hats off to ATI for they're new range, top stuff. Same to Nvidia for the price drops, proper order. Graphics cards are way cheaper than they were 2 years ago :D

According to Bit-tech, crossfire with two cards isn't anywhere near stable enough on recent intel boards. Just go and have a look at their recent motherboard reviews. Not sure about the multi-gpu boards though.
