I have an Asus p5wdg2 ws pro motherboard and dual ati x1950 graphics. I have a corsair 620 watt power supply. Can I add a physics card to this setup and will the power supply be powerful enough. any info would be appreciated

they only work with like 1 game so they aint worth it plus i would wait until they are a few generations old - though i doubt there ever will be a second generation because thats how poor they are

Have to agree with the above poster. PhysX cards at present are simply a waste of money for no real improvement in gameplay.

Hold onto your money & wait another 12 - 18 months & see if their are proper implementations of physics cards in games & whther it will be Ageia, ATI or Nvidia's solutions that are dominant.

As everyone else says, save your money. It's a waste of time at the moment.

Pottsey the Ageia fanboy will be here soon telling us all how great Ageia's PPU is. ;)

Heh - flog the two ATi cards, buy an 8800GTX/GT and enjoy inbuilt physics. :)

thanks

Thank for the info. Much appreciated. Any recommendations on memory. I have a core 2 duo extreme and my asus motherboard has an overclocking feature. Never tried overclocking before. Any advice.?

motherboard
Gigabite DS3/4
Geil ULL DDR2 ram (800MHz) is good too.
make sure you've the right voltages for the ram (some motherboards default to 1.8, most good ram needs 2.1)

He just said he has an Asus mobo.

Try searching around for other peoples overclocks on asus boards. Also it would help to know exactly what asus board you have. P5B or P5W or whatever.

Well they are more worth it now with the price drop and new package of 3 full games. That and some really good developers sighed up to use it like Bioware. Still there are not many games out only about 10 ish off the top of my head.

Before you get a PPU check out the games that work with it unless you have some of the better ones your better off waiting.

Those who say the PPU are pointless are living in the past. Just like those who say there is only 1 game.

For the games the PPU works in you can get nice new effects and a performance boost the main problem is the lack of game support. So that makes the PPU limited in use but not useless.

Only 1 game, the first game has bad effects like random rubble. I was thinking more like liquid chemical grenades among the other nice effects that you cannot get without a PPU.

To many of you are all stuck in the past thinking every game is just like the first game. There have been massive improvements in most of the later games yet most of you never even look at those.

Your better off waiting for ati triple play and nvidia quantum physics, then see if they do resort to using multicore cpu's for sfx.

Till then, it isnt worth it, unless your bank is leaking money.
