Dual graphics card qestion

Hi all new to the forum, been a ocuk shoper for awhile though.

I have a qestion about dual graphics cards.

I currently have a asus 8800 gts 640 mb, and i am interested in getting another for dual. However the asus 640mb cards seem hard to get and are around 200 pounds.

I have been told differant brand cards will work so long as they are the same clock speed however they are also around 200 pounds, however theres a overclcoked version of the card on this website for 100 pounds. If i bought it would there be any problems, i have software that can overclock my current graphics card.

Thanks.

personally I'd just buy a new graphics card when they come out next month, 640s are quite old tech now.

Welcome to the forums. :)

Yes a different brand would work, and also being overclocked won't matter, as it will downclock to match the speeds of your other card, but id agree with the above, new cards are coming 16/17th June, so id wait, id also go single card rather than dual cards in SLi personally.

Hi moomoomoo,
To answer your question, yes the overclocked 8800gts 640 will work with your asus 8800.
You could overlock your asus to the speed of the bfg(?) 8800 and then they would run at the same speed or if not overclocking the bfg will run at the same speeds as your asus.

Hope this helps :)

too late

Ben M, it wouldn't hurt to answer the question moomoomoo asked would it?

What resolution do you game at?

whats your cpu?

These factors will determine wether going SLI is a good option.

I myself would auctiuon that card and get a 8800GT or wait for the new Gen cards.

Ok thanks for the advice :)

How much are these new range of cards likely to be.

My spec is

Cpu E6850 dual core - overclocked to 3.6 gzh

4 gig of ram PC2-8500C5 1066MHz

asus 8800 gts 640mb overclocked

P5N32 SLI-PLUS motherboard.

I have jsut bought a new montior so i am looking to play games at least 1680x1050 res

I am quite happy with my system, runs most games high settings and good fps. But i am hoping another card for 100 pounds would give me a decent preformace increase.

I currently get around 11,000 3d mark 06 score.

Thanks for the advice all.

I will wait and save my pennies . The card i was gonna buy on this site is running out of stock fast anyways and defentily not gonna pay 200 quid or so for a out of date graphics card.

I had 2 8800gt's with a Q6600 cpu at 3 ghz. At the same res
On many games it was slower on SLI, the best increase i got was from about 80 to 90 fps on any game. In the end I sold 1, for cash. Eventually sold the other and got the 3870 x2, which incidentally doesnt work. Theres another open thread about that. But anyway.

But at that res you will regret it

Sounds to me like your drivers weren't working properly.
