Hi all.

I am looking at the below PC:

•Processor: Intel Core i7-3960X (Six Core Extreme, 15MB Cache) Overclocked up to 4.0Ghz
•Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
•Additional 256 GB Mobility Solid State 2.5mm Hard Drive
•256 GB Dell Mobility Solid State Hard Drive, 1.7MM
•16 GB Memory (4x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Quad Channel
•Graphics : Dual 1GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 555
•English Genuine Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium (64Bit OS)
•Optical Drive : 8X Blu-Ray RW (Blu-Ray, DVD, CD read & write)
•24X DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
•Wireless: 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR USB Combo Adapter
•Matte Black 875W Chassis
•Dell 105 Key Soft Touch USB Keyboard Black

I wanted to get an idea on what level of gaming performance I should expect with the dual (SLI) GTX 555 since Google isn't kicking a great deal out at me. I have seen they score around 1,900 on one site with the GTX 580 around 2,800 so I assume 2 x GTX 555 should out perform 1 x GTX 580?

Can anyone clarify.

Also (I understand wrong section) is the above PC in a RAID config so I am getting the full potential of having 2 X SSD drives or is the second just for storage?

Thanks in advance.

The reason you won't find results is that the gtx 555 is an oem only card.

As for your question.. doubt anyone will know. But it's an eol card that was never good in the first place and dell are probably charging you loads for it.

If you don't have the know-how to build your own pc, ocuk makes better pcs than dell ever will.

The GTX 555 is a Fermi design card with 288 stream processors with a core clock of 776MHz.

In contrast a GTX 580 has 512 stream processors and a core clock of 772MHz.

In a perfect world where SLI scaling was 100% and the low VRAM of the GTX 555 (1GB) doesn't limit performance then with two GTX 555 cards in SLI (576 stream processors total) then this SLI setup will be slightly faster than a GTX 580.

However, in the real world SLI scaling isn't perfect and the low VRAM of the GTX 555 will restrict performance in many games at 1080p+ resolutions. Therefore, you would be much better with a GTX 580. Also bear in mind that the GTX 670 is expected to be released really soon - so that will likely be a better option than the GTX 580.

Also, I wouldn't recommend going for the system in the OP - as the i7 3960X is hilariously expensive and basically no different from the i7 3930K, which is a CPU that costs half as much.

May I ask what you will be mainly using the PC for?

Thanks for the advice, I have seen this as I have seen this system for £500 less:

•Processor: Intel Core i7-3930K (Six Core, 12MB Cache) Overclocked up to 3.9Ghz
•Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
•256 GB Dell Mobility Solid State Hard Drive, 1.7MM
•8 GB Memory (4x2GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Quad Channel
•Graphics : 1.5 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580
•English Genuine Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium (64Bit OS)
•24X DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
•Optical Drive : BluRay Combo (Blu-ray read only, DVD, CD read & write)
•Matte Black 875W Chassis
•Dell 105 Key Soft Touch USB Keyboard Black

Yes, that is a better deal. It will offer basically the same CPU performance and better GPU performance while costing less.

That said, have you considered building the system yourself? As you would save a bit of money and you could chose components that perfectly fit your requirements.

May I ask what you will be mainly using the PC for?
