dual monitor question

before I test it I wandered if anyone knew the answer to this question...

I have a 8800GTS with 2 monitors, 1 17" TFT and 1 22"CRT, the VGA card is setup as seperate screens, this allows me to run different res's on both monitors, I use the CRT as my game screen as it does 2048x1536 or something like that but I have Xfire or email open on the other screen...

this question is .. will having the card outputting to 2 screens lower my FPS and if so by how much? I plan on testing it later but nipping out... any ideas?

yes it will, but probably no more then 5% i would have thought.

with my dual screen setup, i probably say a drop of about 5fps average when i went from one screen to two in css, so that was like 85 down to 80. its really not that noticeable unless you play the games dual screen which then i would expect more like a 20% decrease, like mine did when i tried running dual screen MOHAA with everything completely maxed, still playable @ around 70fps and thats with an old X800XT :D

hope this helps

Does anybody know if the 9800 Pro will be able to support 2 monitors, one for gaming and one which would stay on desktop?

I used to play WoW on one screen and had desktop on the other with my 9800 pro. FPS suffered abit don’t think it would manage a more gfx intense game

With an nVidia card if your playing the game on one screen and have 2D up on the other then select single display acceleration only in the drivers and you should see no fps drop at all... if multi display acceleration is selected then your fps can drop by anything from 20-50%...

with ATI no matter what settings I use - the framerates are almost half just having a 2nd monitor connected and configured even if I'm not using it for anything...
