I'm wanting to buy a 144hz monitor as a primary monitor and use my existing 60hz monitor as a secondary display.

I'm using a GTX 960 so have the relevant outputs etc.

Is this do-able? will I need to do any jiggery pokery to get the two displays on their respective refresh rates? Or will it just work out of the box?

Thanks

yep, I'm 144hz main and 60hz second monitor. Although you may want to drop it 120hz as the nvidia drivers will not down clock your card when only using desktop programs. Only drops to 9xxMHz on the desktop, only at 120hz the clock drops to 135MHz. Saves a lot of power and heat.

Idles at 58 degrees and 20% fan. At 144Hz

at 120Hz idle is 32 degrees and 0% fan.

When you game just set it back to 144hz. G-Sync works on both setting so don't worry about that.

Not sure if it effects all Nvidia cards running 2 monitors with one at 144hz. After researching high idle temps on my 980ti. The refresh rate was the issue.
