Dual Monitor Set Up

Ok, so here's the situation. At the office I'm somewhat spoiled, we just got some of those gorgeous Korean 27" 1440p displays, while at home I'm using a paltry 19" widescreen monitor. Put simply, I'm feeling a little inadequate when it comes to screen real estate at home. Constantly resizing windows to complete work is a pain but buying a new display will have to wait until the holiday season has come and gone, three kids to buy gifts for plus the fact I just spent the better part of £800 on a new build means every penny is being counted for the next few months. So, I'm looking for a cheap alternative to get me through the cold winter months.

I have two 4:3 19" monitors sitting in a cupboard collecting dust, and I figured I could simply switch to a dual monitor set up. However, at this point I've encountered a few issues and could use a little guidance to make sure I don't go wasting money, even if it is a small amount.

I have a Dell E196FPF and a Sony SDM-S94, both of which I'd like to run at 1280*1024. However, my graphics card, a HIS 7950 only has one DVI out, alongside an HDMI and two mini-display ports. While the Sony has both DVI and VGA, the Dell has VGA only, so I'm left wondering how best to connect them? Should I just get a DVI to VGA splitter cable?

Additionally, I have the family TV, a 32" Sony LCD hooked up via HDMI from time to time, and I want to retain that.

You should be able to get a mini displayport to vga adapter. I got a Startech branded one a while back to help connect an Apple computer to an older monitor.
