Hi.
Im having a few problems setting up a dual monitor setup here at work.
Ive configured a computer made up of old parts (XP3000, 512Mb, 360Gb, 9700pro) for usage as my primary system. Im trying to get working on it two TFTs, a 17" one and a 15", in a dual monitor setup, however, despite the fact that window sees the second monitor, installs drivers for it, and allows me to 'activate it', it wont switch on!?
What im saying is, that windows, & CCC both think that its working, but its not.
The monitor works on its own however, as i connected it to another system.

Ideas?

Right Click >> Properties >> Settings

have you got the "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" option ticked.

Just my inital thought.

Again, already done. :)

Im wondering if its because the second display is going through a DVI-DSUB converter?

Ive tryed swapping the monitors around, and now i have the same problem, but with the other monitor. So the problem isnt with the monitor/s themselves.

Ideas?

definatly not, I ran 2 19" CRTs for a few years using the VGA output and one of those on the DVI output of my 9800pro

Somewhere hidden away in a config menu will be some box unchecked not allowing the second monitor to fire up.

Have a play with your GFX driver settings, I had a hell of a time getting my laptop to dual display until I hunted down some obscure settings in the ATI drivers

Ah... now if you'd had this problem 3 weeks ago I'd be on my old laptop with an ATI GFX chipset.... new laptop now... NVidia.. hmmm

This is the screen I had to play around with a bit:

ati_displays.jpg

desktop right click -> properties -> settings ? -> advanced ?
More option can be found by clicking on each "monitor" tab, might give you some more stuff

Its not much I'm afraid, but thats pretty much all the help I can give :(

That screen isnt part of the latest ATI drivers.
And the equilivent in CCC ive spent hours messing with. With no results. :(

could it be possible your graphics card doesnt support dual output ?

i know some graphics cards have a DVI and DSUB outputs, but only 1 can be used at any 1 time

this would be consistent with you swapping the monitors round, and the other one then not working instead.

Its a 9700pro. Its been used in the past on my home PC as a dual output card.

first thought - dvi adaptor is damaged. second thought - dvi socket is damaged. 3rd thought - drivers, possibly but i doubt it.
Tryed another DVI adaptor. No difference.
The card has been in a draw for over a year, and worked prior to that in dual display mode. So i doubt its that.
So im thinking its a driver problem.
