So, PC is running a monitor for gaming one side of the room via VGA/DVI convertor, but it doubles as a HTPC for the plasma on the other side of the room. This is connected to the AV receiver by the TV via HDMI.

So, even though I'm not using the plasma at the moment, the GPU is still connected, and if I change the AVR to the correct channel it will display.

The question, am I using GPU power for the 'second screen' if you like? Even though I'm not watching it?

Different cards deal with multi monitors differently my old Nv470 was always idleing at about half speed whereas my new Nv 670 is much better.

Best way to find out is to install something like afterburner so you can monitor GPU load and then boot with the both monitors connected note the GPU usage, then try again with only one monitor connected, this way you can see if the extra monitor causes your GPU to run faster all the time.

Hope this helps.
