Hi there.
I decided I wanted to start using a dual monitor setup today so I dragged my old HP w19ev monitor downstairs and plugged it in next to my Samsung S24A350H. I am running an ATI Radeon 6970 HD so I assumed I would just be able to plug-n-play without any issues.
I was wrong however. The second monitor receives power, but as soon as the cable is plugged into the tower, it displays that it's going into power saving mode and then sits on stand-by indefinitely. I tried swapping the monitors around (Samsung into bottom port, HP into top port) - HP worked, Samsung didn't. It seems that whatever is plugged into the top port works, but doesn't in the bottom port.
My card has 2 DVI ports, which I am plugging into using 2 VGA cables with VGA->DVI adapters on. I tried swapping the adapters around to see if this made a difference - it didn't.
Here are some pics of the cables plugged into the back:
(Linked instead of showing the pics inline because they're a tad big!)

I've tried to force a detection of the monitor in Screen Resolution settings and also in the Catalyst Control Center, neither of which were successful in any way. The 2nd monitor just doesn't show up at all.
I am pretty much a hardware noob so this has got me stumped. If anyone could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it!
