dual monitors

Connect both monitors to your GPU or to your Mobo deppending on if your using onboard or descrete. boot into windows and right click on your desktop go to screen resolution and the settings should be there.

Full system specs? When you right click on the desktop, then click screen resolution, under the "Multiple displays" bit, does "Extend these displays" not work?

i can click it and apply but even after that it makes no change to both my screens, also i have a geforce gtx 620 and i have used a male vga cable that splits into x2 female vga cables, then plugged 2 male to male vga leads into both of them then into both my monitors

Well that explains it, the card is only outputting from one VGA port, it can't do two outputs from one port. You need to connect the second monitor directly to the GPU.

Once you've got them both connected directly to the GPU, hold the windows key and press P. This should bring up the presentation mode selection, you can turn it off, extend the desktop, or copy the desktop

Right click the desktop, then click personalise. Click the desktop brackground and under picture position on the bottom left of the window, choose span.

it doesnt have span there only fill, fit, stretch, title and center. Also none of those work :/

Must be a Windows 8 thing then :p. Alternatively, manually stretch the wallpaper to the correct size in something like paint/photoshop, then set as wallpaper, tile mode.
