Dual NIC problem

Ok, here is the setup on my works PC;

NIC1 is wired, connected to our server & running a bespoke software package. It has a manually configured IP and gateway.

NIC2 is wireless, connected to our BT broadband.

The problem is that NIC2 often looses its connection to the net. Signal strength is always strong and it says its connected and can see the broadband router even when it stops working. It appears my PC tries to access the net through NIC1. Once this starts to happen, I either have to reboot or leave it for 5-10 mins, at which point the net connection suddenly jumps back to NIC2.

I can replicate the problem every time. Surfing these forums for instance is fine - I could surf for hours, until I hit a thread with a lot of pictures at different locations, then it locks up. Similar sites which require a lot of access to different websites on a page lock it up too.

Is there any way I can "lock" the net to the wireless card? Browser is currently set to auto detect settings. My networking skillz are kinda basic so simple steps please :p

Thanks!
