I'm sure it should be possible but just want to check - see if anyone knows any problems or has any experience - running two graphics cards, a 980Ti and a 970 (non-sli), using one to power graphics on monitors and the other for VR (Oculus)?

I know you can do this for PhysX but wanted to check before I commit to my purchasing plan.

i don't see any problem with this, just know that each application will be limited to the monitor you have it on, hence the gpu the monitor is connected to.

You won't be able to run the game off the 980ti going to the vr headset AND have a normal view on a monitor throught the 970. the monitor would need to be connected to the 980ti as well.

but for multiple independent 3D programs then it should work fine.

I personally wouldn't do it. VR is in its infancy and will have enough bugs and what nots to start with and you would most likely end up pulling your hair out to get any kind of VR app working and running well.

If you have some good patience, go for it but if you are like me and after 20 mins of grief you are heading tto the shed to get the big hammer, don't :D

It's purely for developing games at the minimum Oculus spec :) it would be multiple independent 3D programs yes, and I'm quite patient so will give it a try.

Thanks for the replies.
