Dual Opterons - any issues with the SMP client?

No problems running the SMP client on Dual Opteron's here.
I'm running two 242's and they normally make the preferred deadline without any problems, so your 848's should have no problems at all.
If you want to get the best out of them though, you should probably look at using VMWare/Ubuntu/Linux SMP, just follow the details on SiruisB's website.
You may even be able to get a bit of an overclock, depending on your motherboard, using something like Clockgen (though I haven't tried this myself yet).
