Hi,

In a Sandybridge system and a P8P67 motherboard, are there any advantages (or downsides) in using four 'sticks' of memory, rather than just two?

Only socket 2011 is quad channel, normal socket 1155 is dual channel regardless of how slots are used (2 or 4).
But it will depend on how much ram you want use, I am using all slots on my board giving me 16gb of ram :D

Thanks for your reply.

What I was really wondering though is whether or not there would be any apparent difference in performance by using (for example) 4 x 4GB sticks as opposed to 2 x 8 GB sticks?

Although I had originally planned to use just 2 x 4 MB, what with memory being as cheap as it is at the moment I thought I might as well do what you are doing, and get the Corsair 4 x 4GB 'kit'.

I probably don't really need the extra RAM, but it will be nice to know that it is there! :)

There's no difference in performance.

In theory using 4 sticks instead of 2 can make overclocking more tricky but this doesn't appear to be a problem with Sandy Bridge.
