Totally depends what you're playing.
Modern games will chug at high setting unless you have 2gb, so it's more or less needed for playability's sake.
If you're not playing Oblivion/COD2/FEAR/STALKER then 1gb in dual channel will be slightly faster, but only very slightly.
I'd use 2gb.
