Dual OS - have I Broken It?

Hi,

Partioned my drive using XP disc and the installed Vista Business onto the larger partion - all went ok. Then used Acronis to restore an XP Pro image to the smaller partion - now when I turn on it loads straight into XP but hangs at the welcome screen. :confused:

Have I done this completely wrong are is there something I can do to get this working again?

I was under the impression XP had to be installed first.

you do

Vista uses a new bootloader.

XP uses the old version thats not compatible with vista. When you install XP over the top of vista it replaces the bootloader that comes with vista, with the old XP one.

as a result the XP bootloader cant boot Vista

Install XP then Vista ....

Will I be ok to install xp from an image or should i do a clean install?

I think you could restore from an image, however a clean install will be better.
