Hi all,

I have some questions about memory.... I often see people mention dual channel configuration i.e. 2 x 2GB sticks of RAM.

Would the following 8GB memory kit be fine on a X48 Rampage Formula mobo? I'm a complete neophyte, would quad channel be just as fast as dual channel with the added benefit of a whole 8GB of system ram? Are there any disadvantages to this?

Thanks all

no such thing as quad channel - the quad kit is just four sticks matched to run together. The motherboard will still see them as dual channell but in effect you will have 2 channels running in dual mode ergo a quad kit.

Heres mine atm:

Ignore the DDR3 bit - tis a bug in CPU-Z

There's currently no such thing as 'quad-channel'. Any mention of it is for marketing purposes only. Four sticks will run in dual-channel just as two sticks can run in dual-channel provided they are placed in seperate channels.

Now that that's dealt with, I see no reason why that kit shouldn't work. But are you running a x64 operating system?

Its still dual channel, just a gimmick namesake.

Dual channel makes the Bandwidth Throughput is 128bit over Single Channels 64bit.

The Next time it will change is with Intels new Nehalem set up's and it will be Triple Channel (192bit) and needs 3x Memory Modules instead of 2.

Thanks all you answered my question. I will be using the 8GB with Vista 64bit.

Would it be best to disable page filing in Vista with so much ram?
