Looking to replace my CPU cooler to get full use out of my 920 D0 & keep this system going another few years till Skylake is out (over 4 years old now). Its running fine at 4gig but the temps are way to high under stress.

I've got OCZ Reaper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-15000 (1866MHz) ram and been reading that the k2 Mount Doon might conflict with the RAM heatsink heights.

Was wondering if the Noctua D14 might be ok? Anyone know if I'll have issues with either of the above heat sinks and RAM.

Also on the extreme side, is it possible to cut the top of the heatsinks off... I take it they are just tubes to the top heatsinks...

I'll upload pictures to show current setup.

Neither of those coolers will fit with the reaper kits. Which X58 motherboard are you using? Two pretty decent coolers that ive used on asus X58 boards with reapers are the prolimatech megahelims and the Thermalright ultra extreme 120. The boards were a p6t deluxe v2 and a p6 x58 de. Even by cutting the heatpipe off, id say the reapers would still be too tall for any of the dual tower coolers as the part were the pipes emerge from on the heatspreader is quite pronounced compared to the low profile ram im using now in my X58 rig.

well managed to break one of my RAM pieces last night so down to 4gig at the mo.

Might just order 12gig of ram, though I see in the last day they've taken off most of the Tri Channel selection and the only decent ram has high heatsinks.

I've got GA-X58-USB3, will this work with CMX12GX3M3A2000C9 - 12GB (3x4GB) Corsair DDR3 XMS3, PC3-16000 (2000). These seem to be the best around still available, that are low profile, however I'm unsure about what speeds I'll get.

Will I be limited to the speeds in their link?

Almost at the stage where if I throw another £100-200 I can put a whole new bundle together... which I could probably recoup from the sell of pieces anyway...
