Hi..I am thinking of getting a base unit off ebay for my son and was looking at some of the dual xeon dell systems,i was wondering if i added a powerfull graphics card to one of these dual xeon machines, would it be ok for serious gaming as they already have loads of ram and fast hard drives.Got about £200 to spend and can pick one up for under that, thought the processing power might be good for a gaming system.is this a good route to take or am i miss informed?

What core Xeons are they? I have a dual Prestonia core system. The procs are each, essentially, Pentium 4s based on the Northwood core. It's pretty good for gaming but is outpaced by more powerful Core 2-based machines.

i think they are 5130 cpus and are 2ghz not 2.8,sorry my mistake.Remember i only have £200 so money is also a factor, and i dont think im gonna get core 2 duo power for that.

You can definitely get some core2duo goodness. How high end it is depeds on which individual bits you need. A decent cpu, motherboard and ram can easily be had for £200.

Ok m8 cheers...I will go check out the shop and see what i can get for my dosh.

PS:SORRY about the sig size, will sort it now....cheers dude.;)

If anyone has any recomendations for the componenents im looking for, please let me know as its been years since i built a pc from new bits.:)

This setup will get you to 3ghz if you have a ok power supply and change out of £200, someone else might suggest a better option mind so its only a guide :D
