Hello, I have 2 OS's atm, 2x xp32bit, one for sis chipsets the other for intel (8xx-9xx) and nvidia (nforce 4-6) chipsets.

But i want to add vista ultimate (x2, one 32 one 64 bit ) to it for future proofing and win98 se for dos (games) support ( some games for dos work fine like civil 1 or destr derby 1, but dd 2 doesn't, also can't be bothered with dosbox and mounting games or whatever, I just want good old dos back.

Currently have my xp's on fat32 partition so win98 wont be a problem I think, how would i go installing all 3 extra OS's so i can select boot out of 5 at start?

Also how can i prevent the windows setups to edit boot.ini too much, my boot looks like this atm:
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WININT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WININT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Intel" /fastdetect /usepmtimer /NoExecute=OptIn /KERNEL=kernel1.exe
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional SiS" /fastdetect
How can i prevent it from editing this line (especially the codes underlined) :
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WININT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Intel" /fastdetect /usepmtimer /NoExecute=OptIn /KERNEL=kernel1.exe
Any advice is welcome, how can i keep my current xp situation like it is while adding 1x 98 and 2x vista
and most importantly, keep the extra codes in my boot.ini like /usepmtimer and /kernel things.
Fat32/ntfs is not a problem i have more than 1 fat32 (2x) /ntfs (5x) partition ( 6 hdd's in total )

you can't add windows98 to what you already have. it uses a completely different bootloader and would just overwrite what you have now. maybe using a 3rd party bootmanager would work? i have no idea about what though.... :o

the only way for it to work natively is to install every OS in chronological order. win98 first, then multiple installs of xp and then finally vista. and why 2 different chipset installs on the same hdd? :confused:

If you're only doing this for games, I find it strange that you 'cant be bothered with dosbox'! All those OS's seems like much more effort, but each to their own!

ok forget the win98 then

How about vista, i want to keep all the codes in the xp bootloader, as i understand vista has its own bootloader, can i add them xp codes into that loader too or something, also how easy is it to edit *** vista bootloader and wich file is it that vista uses (ie like boot.ini for xp)

do you use the same drive in more than one pc or something? -intel and sis chipsets?

tbh, if vista64 works fine (drivers) then stick with that, pointless having 32 and 64 on there

XP is still a lot better for games (its pretty damn solid!), but vista support will improve

Selling mobo's, testing it for booting capability with my own for personal use hdd, haven't found a way yet to let 1 windows boot on intel and sis, the intel instalatiuon boots fine on : Nforce 2~6, intel 8xx-9xx series, uli, ati chipsets and all reasonably recent Via ones.
And the Sis only on sis chipsets...
