Got the PS app for this, recognises it fine and works like a charm in most games. But then some older games just dont recognise it at all. Tried enabling in Steam but it's very hit and miss, finding it works in some ways but not in others. Anyone got a fix so it just works in everything?

Yes and no. RDR2 for eg didn't recognise it. Days Gone and a few others. I enabled in Steam but don't think Ive done it right, some buttons would work but then the left stick for eg opens an on screen keyboard.

Download ds4windows. Can use it to emulate another controller
