I've been sat daydreaming about what bike I'd like to get as my second bike; not now, or even in a few months, but just sometime down the line.

When the time comes to upgrade, I want to get something completely different to my current bike, a Bonneville. I'll probably keep the Bonnie anyway, but I still want something to set my sights on and save up for.

I am a big fan of the Ducati Diavel. I know its looks are like marmite, but aesthetics aside, does anyone have any experience with it/know someone that has one? What are they like to ride? Good/bad points?

Lmao, narrow minded pillock wazza.

Ducats from the 916 range and older prefer dry weather and can have some electrical issues if not looked after properly, like most bikes.

But the modern ones are just as reliable as the next IL4. I have ridden a diavel and can tell you it's a shed load of fun. Tons of grunt, easy to ride and a beast to boot.

Thanks for the response, Agnes. I did worry about the electricals, I guess with so much tech on-board, there's more to go wrong.

I would definitely like to test-ride one. Once it gets a bit warmer I'll nip down to my local dealer and see what they say. Took the Bonnie out today to pop to town and was a tad chilly!

Thanks for the input, guys, I hadn't actually heard any horror stories about Ducati before, so would be interested in hearing first-hand accounts of what people have had gone wrong with theirs?

If you want the ducati get it, but only if you post some pics up and come to the ocuk bike meet:D

I'll be attending, Bakes, just on the Bonnie for now. Diavel is a pipe-dream, something to save for in 2012 and get in the future, when they're a tad less pricey.

Hope you appreciate some informed and first hand experience of Ducati's. In case you think I'm some sort of Ducati fanboy I've also owned: Kawasaki AR125, Honda NSF125, Kawasaki ZXR750, Aprilia RSVR Mille, Suzuki GS500 and my current Suzuki 1250 Bandit.

Dureth, thanks very much for the informed and balanced response, I appreciate it. To me it sounds like, whilst you had problems with the electrics like Wazza was suggesting, they are the kind of problems you'd get with any bike as a daily rider, rather than some sort of massive drama with Ducati's electrics as a whole.

As for the OP, don't just stop at the Diavel, try something else as well, as the twins ride very different to IL4's. So give your self some room to try other great bikes as well.

I'm definitely going to test a few others, and not just Ducatis, I'm just really not sure what else I like. Originally it was based purely on looks of the Diavel, but then I read up about the tech on the bike itself and was amazed. I'm think the Streetfighter is the only other Ducati I'd really go for. That said, this is all preliminary thoughts, just something to save up for in the future and drool over in the showroom for now.
