I completed my first ever build on Sat and have been doing installing software and drivers all sat afternoon / evening. Then Sunday morning/afternoon i've been using my new comp and everything has been great!!

Until i went out Sunday night and turned off my comp. I came home and my pc was on ? :s with no one touching it and my screen was dead. Oh Crap! So I tried fiddling with all the connections etc and plugging my GFX in out and out etc. and still nothing.

Any ideas or is it a dud graphics card? Help would be greatly appreciated!

sorry was in a rush last night and frustrated!

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Platinum Series DDR2
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (66I-01939)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
Antec Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
Samsung SpinPoint F1 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD322HJ)x2
Samsung SH-S223F/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black)
Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)
Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB)

Also i've opened up my case and tried taking my GFX card in out etc. and when I've turned it on and nothings happened when I then turn it off a single flash from a red light comes from my GFX card.

Nah I've only got my laptop so can't switch it in and out.

Edit:

Just turned it on and the red light on my GFX card is permanatly on now. Sigh

do you have the internal speaker attached ? do you get any beeps ? it would be best if you could try another GC, but this problem could be anything, RAM, GC. CPU, i would reset the CMOS 1st and failing that try a new GC

info from extremesystems forum (member Brave758) notes meaning of LED

OK, for the HD4870 cards .. the LEDs are as follows :-

D1601 - Red LED On, shows critical temperature fault

D1602 - Red LED On, shows External power connector A was removed

D1603 - Red LED On, shows External power connector B was removed

D601 - Red LED On, shows critical Core power failure

I'd go with checking fan wires/connector on the card to see its getting pwoere annothing is stopping the blades moving. Also double check the pcie power feed connectors.

Reset mobo cmos may help as well. your probably going to have to try another card (to me sure th mobos ok) or that card in another pc

Forgot

PC coming on when its shouldn't is usually to do with power management and usb devices or network cards bringing it out of standby. Sometimes not all gfx cards do this well. Other cards may only wake up properly if you use the right output socket (you have 2 right try the other output)
