Hey, I'm looking to build a new computer primarily for gaming and 3D applications such as Maya, as I'm starting my second year in a 3D animation and special effects course at university. I'm looking to spend no more than £450, but even cheaper is obviously much better, I'm a student!

I havn't really been keeping up with hardware and stuff over the last year or so, so I really could do with some advice, just want to make sure im getting everything right. So far everything costs just under £440 and don't really want it to go above that!

Here's what I have so far:

Coolermaster Centurion 5 + 550W eXtreme Power Plus PSU
ASUS P5Q SE2 iP45
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz 1333FSB w/ Arctic cooling freezer pro
Sapphire HD 4850 512MB GDDR3
OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) 800MHz/PC2-6400
Western Digital WD2500AAKS Caviar SE 250GB 7200RPM SATAII/300 16MB Cache
Sony AD-7200S 20X DVD±RW/DL/RAM Internal SATA

Any changes/recommendations to be made here?
thanks

Thanks for replies, I might have to take you up on the hard drive and memory upgrades, they look a lot better than what I'd found. Is that phenom really better then the Q8200 though? I won't be doing much overclocking. I'm not arguing against you, i've just come to assume that the core2 series was the way to go, maybe things have changed ! Mainly looking towards stock performance and reliability, but mostly price ! Thanks again

yes, its better tri core and they overclock well, even with AMD overclocking software.
