well my new laptop is due today......it started its life in china (shanghai) been to germany, united arab emirates/dubai back to china and germany now its in the uk :)

ITS A DELL (most likely an XPS i think)

reason i say is mine took the exact same route today!!! (sending it back though as bout an alienware off the outlet)

it arrived at 2pm
it is new £1600
quite a basic spec stayed with the stock selections for 90% of the lappy i upgraded the graphic card to the radeon hd6990 and also went for the killer network card also got the 1920x1080 wled screen (not the 3d one) am a bit dissapointed that i stuck with the stock hard drive, i figured it will be cheaper to do that upgrade myself.

box contents were all in order except they do not give you the leather bound used manuals anymore which is abit tight of them considering how much the machines cost.

overall am a happy bunny :)

Nice, let us know how the 6990 is, cant wait to get mine next week.

the graphic card is awesome so far, however the lappy gets abit hot so am ordering myself a coolermaster notepal u3 from play for £17...nice buy :)

i am now in need of a guide though.....if i buy an ssd drive how do i make that the master and install all the stuff that already on the other drive?
disks i got with machine are :-
alienware m17xr3 resource cd
alienware windows 7 cd
and 2 other none important disk's

Its quite easy to clone the existing hard drive, ive done the same thing, ordered a 60gb ssd, will use the other one for storage that comes iwth it.

Whats the noise like?

I have always done a fresh install from the disks. If you clone an SSD does it align the partition correctly?

Will be throwing an SSD in mine when it arrives

You and I will have to clone though as the outlet dell's done come with restore disks, just a restore partititon, not even an option to create disks (if my M14x was anything to go by).

there is no noise as such, its very quiet in my opinion

so should i just buy an ssd drive and do a clean install using the :-

win7 disk and alienware m17x r3 disk?

i take it the bios options will be the same as a desktop to select which drive to boot from etc.

Use the m17x windows disk but dont use the resource cd, its well out of date. Get all drivers from dells website except fot ati or nvidia drivers. You can usually get those direct but may need a modded inf. Any probs and you can just post back and we can help.

You dont need to worry about bios for an ssd but i usually try to keep it upto date anyway. Then just hit boot option key (not sure as i havent got mine yet but prob f12) and boot from the windows cd

Ok mate, will check my mail. I got 4gb in mine, let me know if you are putting your spare 4gb for sale in mm. Though i may have 4 spare soon as i keep meaning to put 8 in my mbp17
